I have the honour to acknowledge the re-

forming me that Mr. R. C. Dixon has been certified to be per-

manently incapacitated from further service as Government

Marine Surveyor and has been called upon to retire from the

Service at the expiration of his leave of absence.

I have caused the Crown Agents to be in-

formed of the amount of pension ($1,260 per annum at 3 8.

to the dollar) to which Mr. Dixon is entitled, and transmit

herewith the usual paper of particulars with regard to the

vacant appointment. I have also the honour to make the follow-

ing recommendations.-

Mr. Macdonald, Assistant Marine Surveyor, to be

Marine Surveyor, on the salary already provided for that office

($3,600 rising to $4,200;

Mr. Crake to be Assistant Marine Surveyor at the

salary provided, amely $2,400 rising to $3,000 by $300 tri-

ennially, but to be allowed to commence at $2,700, that being

the salary which he receives at present as 2nd. Assistant. Mr.

Crake is strongly recommended by Captain Rumsey for the past

of First Assistant, but he is naturally unwilling te accept
